When we read a book, it's like immersing ourselves in a vast never ending sea of new experiences, emotions, and sensations. We are pulled into an unfathomable world of ever changing encounters with people, places and times we could never imagine in our every day lives. The ceaseless waves carry us from the pinnacle of a surging crest to the roaring tide that batters the shore. We are tossed about, pummeled, lulled, and lifted up by the constant motion of the endless sea that engulfs us.
As we plunge into each new book, we are reminded of the words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, “My soul is full of longing for the secret of the sea. And the heart of the great ocean sends a thrilling pulse through me.”
When we open a book, the entire ocean opens up to us.
